Claycomb earns degree
Cory Taylor Claycomb of Queen has graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Scholarship deadline is April 1
Dr. Roy D. Hoffman Scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors in Bedford and Fulton counties who plan to attend two- or four-year colleges or universities or accredited technical or vocational schools. Applications are available at https://pittsburghfoundation.org/scholarship/2235. Previous recipients are encouraged to re-apply in consecutive years. The deadline for applications is April 1.
BMS pupils recognized
Three Bedford Middle School students received Bison Awards for February. To be eligible for the award, they have distinguished themselves by being deserving of recognition for a “job well done.” Each winner received a $25 gift card. Award winners are, from left, Gavin Kolander, grade 8; Addyson Claycomb, 7th grade; and Alice Miller, 6th grade; and school resource officer Joe Kovel.
Kaylee Simpson, a sixth grader at Everett Area Middle School, was selected as the second-place winner of the local VFW District 30 Patriots Pen essay contest. This year’s theme was “How Are You Inspired By America?” The contest encourages young writers to reflect on America’s history as well as their own experiences in American society. Each participant then writes a 300-400 word essay responding to the theme and incorporating their thoughts and viewpoints. Everett Middle School principal Laurie Criswell, is quite proud of Kaylee and her essay. “Kaylee is a highly motivated and involved young lady,” said Everett Middle School Principal Laurie Criswell. “She is quick to try new educational experiences and to always be a positive face of the district.” Simpson is the daughter of Danielle and Craig Simpson of Everett.

Bedford Business and Professional Women’s club is offering scholarships to graduating females at local schools and non-traditional students continuing their education.
